Giugiaro Imortal Design

Giorgetto Giugiaro was 25 years old when the Giulia Sprint GT debuted in 1963, he was working for Bertone and he's ingenious was rapidly acknowledged allowing him to work on a new coupé for Alfa Romeo, Bertone's biggest client and most importantly a make worldwide know for it's design specially in coupé form. A huge task for sure and he did it perfectly!

Hardly any large production Coupé has a more proportionate, tense and dynamic design. It's was a success at launch and became the staple for a classic alfa romeo by today standards. One of the rare car´s where you cannot find a bad angle to look at.

Alfa Romeo did her share either, with the all aluminum twin cam engine ranging from 1300 to 2000cc, double carburetors, coupled with 5 speed gearbox, all around disk brakes and good suspension setup made the car very fast and responsive on the road, both at period reviews and still today it keeps up with traffic as well as a sprint hillside drive incredibly well.

Our particular example is a first series GT 1300 Junior from 1967, still with the flat dashboard shared with the 1.6 Sprint GTV. It was acquired in Italy in great running, complete and in good condition, and afterwards had a full nut and bolt restoration job in a renown Alfa Romeo specialist to make the bodywork perfect and refinish all surfaces. As the starting point was great it was not a huge undertaking and the final result is superb: A car that drive as new, no gasoline or fumes inside and able to travel anywhere.

More than 10.000kms had been driven since completion with great fun an reliability. We recall fondly crossroad Portugal in the Retiffilo event with 1500kms done in 3 days trough amazing sceneries together with great food and friendship.
